The Gums' last Sunday with us https://www.mymillcreek.com/news/post/the-gums https://www.mymillcreek.com/news/post/the-gums#comments Wed, 16 Aug 2017 11:00:00 -0500 https://www.mymillcreek.com/news/post/the-gums In case you missed being with us last Sunday, we announced that Ben Gum will be leaving Mill Creek to take a pastoral position at First Baptist Church in Shawnee. His last time with us as worship director will be Sunday, and Coleman Barbour will then take the position of interim worship director.

On Sunday we’ll send Ben and Dawna off with cake at the Worship Center after each service. We’ll also collect cards of love and appreciation for the Gums, so please bring one to drop off!

Here is a letter that Ben has written about his move:

Dear Mill Creek Family,

It is with both excitement and sadness that I have resigned my position as Worship Director at Mill Creek. Over the last few weeks of helping serve First Baptist Church in their time of leadership transition, God has shown Dawna and myself that we have a great opportunity to minister in helping revitalize this historic church body. We have seen their pastoral need, and with open hands and hearts, we have explored and imagined the possibilities of serving there. Now FBC’s leadership has offered me a staff position that will call me to exercise pastoral gifts I have seen God developing over recent years. Likewise, there are leadership needs for which Dawna’s strengths are well suited. This decision has been very difficult, but Dawna and I have become convinced of God’s moving, and now we have felt that God is pleased to have us serve there.

Dawna and I are so honored to have served in such a loving and well-led church family as Mill Creek! And I have grown much personally and pastorally under the sharpening of this leadership team and church family! Above all, we praise God that we have been blessed again, as in the past, to make a ministry transition for only good reasons, and in a context of great blessing and joy – what a privilege!

The urgency of the current pastoral vacancy at FBC has prompted us to transition at a pace that feels sudden, but after twelve truly blessed years at Mill Creek we want to transition well. We have planned August 20 to be my last Sunday at MCCC. Fortunately, we are not saying, “goodbye,” so much as, “see you around town,” so we hope that will offset the suddenness of the news. No church family is more precious to us than Mill Creek, and it is a blessing to realize we continue to be one Church in Christ, wherever we happen to serve and meet on any given Sunday!

It is our prayer that Mill Creek will continue to thrive and grow as a gospel-centered church planting gospel-centered churches. We would appreciate your prayers that God would use us to help FBC accomplish that same goal, so that the great name of Jesus Christ will be known throughout our communities and among the nations.

With gratitude and great affection,

Ben and Dawna Gum
